Are digital jobs driving the recovery?

Not a day goes past at the moment when we don’t here that ‘another retail giant hits the skids.’ Today its the turn of ‘Oddbins.’ So what happened? I’m no retail expert but from an outsider looking in I would have said that its a combination of whole range of issues including economic climate - people are being a bit tighter with the cost of their vino, competition from supermarket convenience, a tired brand, not enough emphasis on web driven traffic, a poor level of customer and sales service when you enter their store.

Which ever way you look at it companies without an online marketing strategy are asking for trouble. You’ve heard the phrase that retailers are turning from ‘bricks to clicks.’ To manage, monitor and drive sales it would appear that the online marketing has got to work hard and together with off-line. ‘Groupon’ is another success story taking us in this direction offering vouchers for shopping discounts. The last two meals I’ve eaten out at least one of the member of my party has produced a voucher for a discount!

Apple is great example of a seamless transition from off-line through to online experience. I recently went to the Apple flagship store in Regent Street - wow! It was the middle of a pretty grey Tuesday morning and place was packed with shoppers shopping! No sign of the recession in this store that was was for sure.

Online marketing is here to stay and we are noticing the rise in digital based jobs that we take on and none more exciting than a role with a £5 million internet success story. The MD of our client recently featured in the Sunday Times talking about the success he has had with his company in the bedroom business. Who would have thought bed covers could be so cool and profitable! The business sells a great range of top quality brand names for the bedroom through a slick looking website.
