Is it a jobless recovery? Don’t believe the hype.
Jobless recovery! Journalists love their soundbites and need those headlines to sell their wares. Having just taken a moment to peruse the latest findings from the report on jobs published by KPMG most of the market stats can be nicely summised in one word - volatility!
So is it a jobless recovery? Well the stats don’t support this, if we believe what we are being told, as there has been a marked recovery in the number of staff appointments via recruitment consultancies since the darkening end of 2008.
Bernard Brown - Partner at KPMG says “The UK jobs market continued to expand in March albeit at a slower pace. The latest figures show that the job market recovry remains volatile. Some private sector employers are hiring again but at the moment not in the numbers sufficient to absorb the job losses in the public sector.”
On the ground there are jobs across most sectors vacant. The expectations of what the clients want may be a slightly higher than usual - but there are jobs. This week we’ve seen a surge of sales and business development roles coming into Fusion Recruitment.
A great role we are working on at the moment is for Sales and Marketing Manager to be based in Guildford. Although this title is a bit misleading as I think it would suit a middle ranking Sales Director too. Effectively the company wants to take their medical and sports performance product that is successful in the healthcare channel and sell and market it to the consumer sports market.
The package is up to £75k but I get a feeling this is negotiable for the right person. As part of the role the person will build a sales team and manage the marketing function in the Uk and Europe. French is also a nice to have for this role but not a deal breaker.
